What’s Salvation All About?
Before you do anything that could radically change your future, check it out! Take the time to learn what you need to know to make the right decisions. Don’t do anything on blind faith. Know what you are getting yourself into BEFORE you jump ship from your present life and lifestyle. After all, you don’t want to look like a complete idiot if you do something that turns out to be a hoax or not true, right?
So, before you make a decision to know God personally through His son Jesus Christ, let’s take a look at some Truth about God, man, God’s plan, and what you can do about it all.
Who is God?
God is the Creator of everything. He has always been and will always be throughout eternity.
Genesis 1:1 sums it up pretty well. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
God is eternal, all-knowing, and all powerful. Some people can’t fully get their head around this reality.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” – Revelation 1:8.
“And looking at them Jesus said to them, ‘With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” – Matthew 19:26
You can Google these scripture references if you want to better understand just how awesome the God of the entire universe is: Psalm 147:5, 1 John 3:20, Matthew 10:30, Psalm 147:4, Proverbs 15:3, Colossians 1:17, Luke 1:37, Isaiah 14:27.
God is Holy. God is holy (without sin). He will not allow sin into His presence or into heaven.
“For I AM the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore for I am holy” – Leviticus 11:45.
“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,” – I Peter 1:15.
He Loves Us. God is love. He loves us. He has an awesome plan for our lives. He will go to extremes to prove His love to you if you need proof. The GOOD News is that even though God is Holy and we are not, because He loves us so much, He made a way for us to be reunited with him, not only in heaven when we die, but also here on earth.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” – John 3:16-17
He Wants Us to have an Abundant Life. God is the god of abundance. Scripture says that He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. It also tells us that the earth is His and all its fullness. In other words, no matter who thinks they own anything, God is the ultimate owner of it and we can at very best only be stewards of it while we are living on this earth. The cool think is that He wants us to enjoy all that He has made and bless our lives with both abundance in quality of life as well as abundance in quantity.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29:11
“I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly” – John 10:10
Who We Are. He created us to have a close and intimate relationship with us. He made us to be like Him – a spirit (the eternal part of who we are), with a soul (intellect, emotions, mind of reason, and a free will to choose), and gave us a body (an earth suit to enjoy His creation with Him).
“Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness;” – Genesis 1:26
BUT, we screwed up when we choose to rebel against God. As a result, sin entered into the world and we were, and still remain, separated from God.
Our Position Before God. Man chose to disobey God and rebel against Him. As a result, man was put out of the garden where God was communing with and enjoying His friendship with man. Because God is holy and sin cannot be in His presence either on earth or in heaven. There is no way to change this on our own. We can’t work our way back to God. We can’t buy our way. We can’t earn our way. We can’t negotiate or bribe our way back to God.
“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned,” – Romans 5:12
“For the wages of sin is death” – Romans 6:23. We are talking spiritual death here. We were born spiritually dead in our sins.
“These [those who do not have a personal relationship with God] will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power” – 2 Thessalonians 1:9
“…You have hidden Your face from us and have delivered us into the power of our iniquities” – Isaiah 64:7
Not looking too good, is it? We have a dilemma. God is Holy and we are not. So how do we get back in right standing with God?
God’s Love Story for Us. From the moment man sinned against God and left us spiritually dead because of our sin, God began working towards restoring us (mankind) back into relationship with Him. His solution? He would take all of our sin and put it upon Himself. So, He came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ and made a way for us to be reunited with Him, not only in heaven, but here on earth by having a personal and intimate relationship with Him here.
“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.’” – John 14:6
“As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” – John 1:12
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.” – Ephesians 2:8
SO HERE IT IS! After learning all of this, and seeing just how much you are loved by the creator of the universe, would you like to know Him personally? You can!
If you have not already received the free gift that God has for you through His son Jesus Christ, you can receive it right now. If you are at a place in your spiritual journey to take God at His word, pray this simple prayer out loud:
”God, I know I am separated from you because of my sin and rebellion towards you.
I confess that I have sinned against you and ask you to forgive me of all my sins and save me from the penalty of my sins.
I want to be born again and have a personal relationship with you through your son, Jesus Christ.
I now accept Jesus as my personal savior and as an act of my free will, by faith I choose to believe in my heart and I confess out loud with my mouth that Jesus is Lord.
I believe Jesus died for my sins on a cross.
I believe he was buried in a tomb, after three days in the tomb that he was resurrected from the dead, and now sits at your right hand in heaven.
I receive your gift of eternal life that you offer through Jesus Christ.
Fill me with your Holy Spirit and the power of your Holy Spirit.
By faith I believe that I am now forgiven for all my sins and saved from the penalty of all my sin. I believe by faith that I am now born-again and that you will receive me into heaven when I die because of my faith in and obedience to you.
I thank You for the gift of my salvation now, in Jesus name.”
What Just Happened?
Here’s the recap of what will become the most important day of your life if you just now prayed to receive Christ as your Savior and Lord. Just now, if you believed in your heart and confessed with your tongue that Jesus is Lord, you have been born again! All of your sins have been forgiven. You are now a child of God and no one, nothing, not a single thing can separate you from the love and forgiveness of God. We have this assurance from what the Living Word of God says:
“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” – John 3:17
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” – John 14:6
Jesus said, “The thief comes to kill, to steal, and to destroy, but I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10
“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” – 2 Corinthians 7:10
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Romans 10:13
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
Always remember to run to God and NOT from God. Remember, He loves you and has a great plan for your life, and HE will never abandon, betray, or let you down.
